How does the Home Renovation Savings Program Works

    Solar Panels

Homeowners can receive a rebate covering up to 50% of the total cost of installing rooftop solar panels, with a maximum rebate of $5,000.

The rebates are calculated at $1,000 per kilowatt. For example, if you install a system of 4.8 kW-DC, you would receive a rebate up to $4,800. The rebate is not rounded up.

    Battery Energy Storage

An additional rebate is available for those who pair their solar panels with a battery storage system. This rebate also covers up to 50% of the total cost, up to $5,000.

    Rebate Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the rebates, homeowners must meet the following conditions

    Residency

The property must be a single or semi-detached home, or a row/townhome located in Ontario.

    Ownership

Applicants must own the home where the solar and battery storage systems will be installed. This does not mean you can only participate in this program once. You can apply for the rebate once for each property you own (i.e. you can apply once with your primary residence and again with your cottage or other additional property).

    Grid Connection

The home must be connected to the Ontario electricity grid. Note that Cornwall Electric customers, who are connected to the Hydro-Québec grid, are not eligible. You cannot apply for this loan if you plan to participate in a net metering arrangement.

    From Start to Finish

The estimated timeline for the entire solar project is between 12 to 17 weeks, which can be divided into 4 stages.

    Preliminary Design

The first stage typically takes about 3 to 4 weeks after receiving the customer’s deposit. This stage ensures that we have the necessary data to move forward with the project efficiently.

    Application

At this stage, we help customers to apply for the necessary permits and authorizations, which generally takes 6 to 8 weeks. This stage is crucial for securing the necessary approvals before installation can begin.

    Procurement and Installation

Once approvals are in place, we move on to procurement and installation, which usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. At this stage, the solar system is physically installed and prepared for operation.

    Commissioning

The final stage takes around 1 to 2 weeks to make sure the installed system meets its design. Once this stage is completed, the solar system is fully functional and ready for use.
